This weeks “Chat from the Chair”

An excerpt from this Saturday’s programme .

The very last game of a quite remarkable season sees us welcome Bedfont Sports who, after a mid season scare have now secured their place in the league for another year With both sides relaxed we should hopefully have an entertaining game to bring the curtain down.

League Champions, unbeaten away all season and over 100 goals scored, we have certainly watched something very special over the last year and Ian, Mick, Pitts and the team fully deserve all the plaudits that are coming their way. We were top of the league from the off and whenever we had a blip we came back stronger than ever. The last minute winners, spectacular goals and some stunning performances have given us all memories that will last for years. 

After the game today we will be presenting our annual awards and I hope you all stay to recognise the winners.

There will be, for the first time, two new awards. The Chairmans award will be presented to two individuals, one player and one off pitch volunteer who have captured in my view the very spirit of what makes Leatherhead FC such a special club. Those close to me and certainly all the board members know that I hold dear the image of the club in that we must always do things the right way. Win with style, lose (the very few times it happened this year) with good grace and always try to leave the impression that Leatherhead are a class operation. Everyone who wears the badge has a responsibility to represent our community club in the right way.

The front cover of todays programme is a symbol of what the club represents, champions on and off the pitch, where everyone is welcome for a family day out watching our local team.

To all who have played a part in creating this atmosphere, thank you. Fetcham Grove is somewhere to be proud of now and I know this only happens because of our fantastic volunteers. 

Also to you all, thank you for your amazing support all season. We have gone to away grounds and turned them into a mass of green and you really have been the 12th man, supporting the team and contributing no small part in that history making unbeaten away record.
