Getting to know – George Hedley.

This article was originally from a programme a while ago , but let’s hear what George has to say

How old are you ?

24

Can you provide a brief summary of your football career to date?

Made my Combined Counties Premier South debut at 16 having progressed through Cove Youth into
the First Team. I played Full-time at Chelsea Development during my college, then moved to
Aldershot Academy where I played u18’s, u21’s, also representing the First Team in the FA Trophy.
I went to Badshot Lea FC to gain experience and ended up staying, I was club searching in summer
last year until Ian Selley gave me a call and here I am.

You are now in your second season so how are you enjoying life at the Grove?

Since becoming a Tanner I have been made very welcome. Leatherhead is a huge club with massive
history, I am proud to be involved. Last season was a challenge, but valuable lessons were learnt. Now
with the squad we have retained plus the new additions we are motivated to achieve big things.

Growing up, which players or sports people generally did you take inspiration from? Who were your childhood heroes?

This is tricky, I’d have to say Frank Lampard as he is a Chelsea legend but Ronaldo was also a big
idol to me growing up.

What other sports do you think you are good (or bad) at?

I am pretty decent at darts and pool.  I won’t mention the G word cause I’m still working on my
swing…

You’re hosting a dinner party this weekend. Which three celebrities are invited, and why?

Leonardo DiCaprio – Favourite actor and could teach me a couple things. Gordon Ramsey – Funny and a great cook so would be the ideal candidate to have. Swannell – So he can talk me through his running
technique.

Do you have any pre match rituals or superstitions?

On Saturday’s I like to get out and about in the morning to get my body moving and my mind
ticking. I’m quite picky with what I eat, not too much or little. I always travel to my games with
Mumzie. I also do 3 jumps as the game is about to start, something I’ve always done since I was a
kid.

What is your Karaoke song of choice?

Valery by Amy Winehouse

In your dreams, which team would you play for?

As a Chelsea supporter it would have to be Chels, then I’d nick a move to Real Madrid.

What shows, podcasts or series are you currently watching or listening to?

I love a series, YellowStone is my go to at the moment.  I also like Steve Bartlett’s videos on YouTube as
they’re quite interesting to listen to once in a while.

What is the highlight of your football career to date?

Badshot Lea FC – 2023 Winning the Hampshire Cup, Promotion in the league, and voted managers
player, players player, and supporters player of the year.

What’s your favourite app on your phone?

TikTok

You have played in a number of positions since joining but what is your preferred position? Is it
easy to play in a number of different positions?

I’ve always been a natural centre-back growing up, but I’ve also been able to adapt and play in other
positions when needed. Defending is definitely my strongest attribute, but I do enjoy going forward
too, which is why I’ve liked playing right-back. I wouldn’t say it is easy to play multiple positions due to the physical aspect, positional awareness and understanding required, but this is great to have as it adds diversity to the squad.

Finally, do you have a message for the Leatherhead supporters?
Get behind us this season as your continued support keeps us going. We want to achieve and provide results this year so we need your support with us at every step! Up the Tanners!

  1. Well done this season George, you have got stronger with each game, even when you have been under pressure to get a start every game. Have never let the team down and scored some important goals. Could do with a bit more practice on your throwins??
    Congrats on a great season.
