This week’s chat from the chair

What a difference 10 days can make in football, 4 wins in a row, 12 points and clear at the top. Well done to Ian and the lads for digging in and coming away unbeaten.

Before last week’s game against Fareham, I asked for us all to pull together and get behind the team as we enter the business end of the season.  We wanted to make Fetcham Grove a place other teams feared to play again. We know there will be ups and downs and you, as always, delivered. When we scored the late winner against Fareham I thought the roof was about to come off the stand! The relief and togetherness of the Green Army was clear to all. Thank you.

Following that, we pushed on to get another home win against Egham and then travelled away to one of our main rivals for promotion, Moneyfields, and came away with a valuable 3 points.

To then round it off with a comprehensive 6-1 victory away at Raynes Park was superb. The first half performance as good as any this season as we went in with a 5-0 margin.

The games are coming thick and fast now as all our postponed matches are played so we will need the full squad to play their part and stick together, with the players who come on every bit as valuable as the starting eleven.

Away from the pitch, the Club is a busy place as already the planning is starting for next season.  Plans are being put in place to improve our disabled facilities, refurbish our kitchen, extend our community program with local schools and build closer links with our Women’s team.

It really never stops and my sincere thanks go to all the volunteers who make this all possible.

A practical change for the last two home games will be the return of the external caterers we used for the FA trophy game against Horsham. As our crowds are getting bigger the Board are aware of the queuing time for hot food so we will experiment again for the last two home matches: Met Police on the 6th April and Bedfont Sports on the 25th. We want to see if this works better and if so we will consider the possibility of making this a permanent change for next season. Our Tea Bar will still be open but for tea, coffee and cold snacks, which in turn will be able to provide a faster service for you.

It would be remiss of me not to welcome back a number of ex-players today with the officials and management of Raynes Park Vale coming to the Grove. Their manager Hayden Bird lead us to the play off final a few years ago and I look forward to seeing him and his team again. I hope you all enjoy your day and I look forward to catching up with old friends after the  game.

  1. Fiollowing on from our conversation at Raynes Park regarding how well received your”chats” are on the terraces & how the murkier days of old are now far, far behind us. I must also complement the board on the their efforts to extinguish the feeling of high level & lower level of status of people within the club & leading by example being the same level with the same goals as all who support our club all pulling in the same direction for greater success. Yourself and the board keep doing what you are all doing well and the fan’s & the team will be right there behind you COYT
