Leatherhead FC 4-0 Ascot United:
Match Report by Jake Cox
An early rampage from Leatherhead saw the league leaders sail to a 4-0 win, with a
masterclass of clinical finishing to move clear of a valiant Ascot United in style at
Fetcham Grove.
With less than a quarter of an hour on the clock, Jacob Breckon received the ball in an
excellent position from a Nathan Hogan pass with space on the left-hand side of the
area and the number 9 breezed the ball underneath Kie Plumley in the Ascot goal. With
great composure, Breckon gave the Tanners a goal advantage inside 15 minutes.
Leatherhead continued their relentless attacks with a dangerous ball played into the box
which was met by the chest of Breckon, who guided it into the path of Jordy Gallagher
who smashed the ball into the top right corner to establish a comfortable two goal buffer
halfway through the first period with Ascot looking startled.
A brilliant flick-on by that man again, Jacob Breckon found former Ascot man Anas
Igoululn who completed a one-two with Breckon, and his shot hammered against the
right post before the rebound was buried by Nathan Hogan. A third goal inside thirty
minutes put Leatherhead in dreamland at Fetcham Grove.
Ascot United simply couldn’t deal with the quality of Leatherhead led by Jacob Breckon,
who was at the fore of all the promising attacks for the home side. With half an hour
gone Leatherhead could more than smell blood with the league leaders proving too
much for the away side.
The first half reached its conclusion with a robust warning of the threat Ascot can pose
with Khalid Simmo looking especially dangerous, but the away side lacked any quality in
the final third.
Ian Selley would’ve been very relieved to hear the half time whistle despite his side
taking a 3-goal lead into the break as Ascot’s threat intensified towards the back end of
the first half.
The players returned to the pitch with the rain lashing down at Fetcham Grove. An early
penalty appeal by Anas Igoululn was waved away by the referee as Leatherhead began
the second half looking to kill the game but became frustrated with misplaced passes.
However, Breckon broke with pace and power just before the hour mark to register his
second of the match and Leatherhead’s fourth. He played the ball to Hogan whose effort was saved and parried it into the path of the striker who did the rest to remove any hope of a Yellamen comeback, despite their resolute efforts.
A remarkable flurry of saves from Ascot’s Kie Plumley denied Gallagher and Leatherhead a fifth of the afternoon as the Tanners were running riot in the rain.
There were a multitude of chances at both ends towards the end of the game but neither side could add to their goal tally.
A deserved Man of the Match award was given to Jacob Breckon who led from the front
and was the difference in the final third with composure and physicality to help his team
defeat Ascot United 4-0 to maintain their status at the top of the table.
In summary, a great display from The Tanners in front of a crowd of 509, but for Kie Plumley in goal for Ascot this could have been an even heavier defeat for “The Yellamen”
Leatherhead will be looking to continue their great form when they travel to play Egham Town on Tuesday night.
