Leatherhead Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Luther Williams and Kalani Barton.
Having signed for Chelsea at the age of twelve, Luther was at Stamford Bridge until sixteen. On leaving Chelsea, he was immediately snapped up by Sheffield United, where he completed his scholarship and went on to sign a professional contact at Bramall Lane. Luther is 6ft 1″ strong aerially and very comfortable in possession.
Kalani arrives having recently left Crystal Palace. The right wing back joined the Selhurst Park Academy at the tender age of eight and left this Summer, ten years later.
“I am delighted to have signed Luther and Kalani,” beamed Manager Hayden Bird. “In addition to the established players we have here, to attract players such as Luther and Kalani from Premier League Clubs shows the progress Leatherhead are making. In speaking to people within Chelsea’s and Crystal Palace’s Academy, both players are very highly regarded, which speaks volumes for them.”
In looking forward to tomorrow’s Velocity Cup game with Chipstead, the Manager stressed the importance of the competition and confirmed both Luther and Kalani are both in the Match Day squad.
“Having won in the FA Trophy on Saturday, we can now prepare to face a really good Chipstead team on Tuesday night. In doing so, it’s important to emphasise the importance we place on all of the cup competitions. As a squad with strength in depth, these competitions are important to us. Equally, it’s a big season for Leatherhead. In addition to fighting for promotion, we want to attack both the Velocity Cup and the Surrey Senior Cup.”
“It’s only when you are inside of Leatherhead that you realise how big the club is and equally, how big we could genuinely become. In order to fulfil that potential, we need to win trophies. For that reason, we are taking the Velocity Cup very seriously and that will be shown in tomorrow’s team selection. Both Luther and Kalani will play, Brian will return in goal and Kenny will captain a strong team.”
“In taking the competition seriously, I’m asking the fans, -who have been fantastic week in week out- to get the The Grove and embark on a cup run with us. Let’s stand together to try to bring silverware to Leatherhead!”
