Well we never saw that result coming did we? A 1-4 home defeat left us all in a state of shock after the game and scratching our heads wondering how we had so much of the ball only to go down in such a manner. Well done to Maldon who defended deep, took their chances when they got them and as they say “that’s football”.
In the context of a long season it may prove to be a good thing as I think we were all getting a little complacent as the boys started the season unbeaten in 3 and I sensed an atmosphere that felt we would win this one then have the big bank holiday fixtures against Eastbourne and Dulwich to contend with. We have always bounced back from setbacks so let’s hope the boys do so again.
Since my last notes we have secured the signing of Connor Harris from Farnborough. He is strong powerful midfield player who will add to our squad depth and bring healthy competition for places in that midfield area. He is only 19 but I know the coaching team are looking forward to working with him. Welcome to the Tanners, Connor.
Last week we held the annual supporters AGM and we had a really good turnout who were all in good spirits looking back on what had been a very special 12 months. Though these meetings take a lot of work and planning I for one love mixing with our members who are the backbone of the club and all have the clubs best interests at heart. We discussed plans to change the constitution of the club to make it a real fans owned organisation which we are hoping to do in the next 6 months ready for the 2027/28 season.
Sat with my director team of David Pope, Laurence Herbert, Jim Gordon and Trevor Kelly it made me very proud as they all presented their reports in a professional way and answered fans questions clearly and transparently. We really have come a long way in the last 4 years.
