Chat from the Chair

First of all I would like to extend a warm welcome to the officials players and supporters of this weekend’s visitors, Maldon & Tiptree. I hope you all enjoy your time at Fetcham Grove.

What a start to the season we are having. 7 points from the first 3 games is better than we could have hoped for and the boys have not looked out of place at all in our new surroundings. A really good performance in the away win at Ramsgate followed by a scintillating home win against Welling United. I have spoken to lots of supporters following that game and a number told me the first 45 mins was the best half of football they had every seen from a Leatherhead team. The interplay was quality and a result of the hard work done on the training ground in pre season.

We then travelled to Burgess Hill Town where we had to fight and hold our nerve in a battling 2-2 draw which by all accounts was a fair result. this extended our away unbeaten run to 24 away games, a truly outstanding achievement and one all involved with the playing side should be very proud of.

I couldn’t make the Burgess Hill game but I tuned in to hear the full match commentary by our new voice of the Tanners, Finlay. If ever you cannot make a game please tune in as he brings the game to life and his knowledge of both teams makes for a really exciting and interesting listen. You can find the link to connect to his commentary on any of the socials and it starts 5 mins before kick off. Well done Finlay, you certainly made being away from the action much more bearable with your excellent coverage.

As this game against Maldon & Tiptree marks our first Saturday home game of the season the shop will be selling all the new merchandise  especially our new dark blue away range which was flying off the shelves last Tuesday, with the new away shirt proving to be really popular. It’s always a risk to change something as radical as the club badge but, on the away kit, we felt it was something worth trying and I’m delighted its proved to be such a winner. Funnily enough I noticed our old friends at Raynes Park Vale have done a similar thing in modernising their badge as have a number of professional teams in all 4 main divisions, proving Leatherhead FC are at the forefront of kit design innovation.

Today’s game is sponsored by the long term supporters The Untouchables. Thank you for your support chaps and I look forward to spending time with you during today’s game.
