Some sad news for the club to relay.

Lifelong Tanners supporter Dave Johnston passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon. Dave, variously known as the Jolly Green Giant (on account of his being quite tall) and The Count (due to him always walking around the ground and counting the crowd) had been following Leatherhead for 50 odd years and was co-author of the club history book published in 2007.

He was also a legend among the ground hopping fraternity.

His last Tanners game was the 3-2 win over Kingstonian on the previous Saturday, when, despite his illness, he was still in good spirits and enjoying the game.

Dave was always great company and had a great appreciation of the absurd. To quote a comment posted on a non league forum ‘Dave was one of the very best of us and to quote an often misused term, which is entirely appropriate in this instance – he was the archetypal true gentleman in every respect.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
